We had the most beautiful day filled with sunshine and temperatures in the 70's. It was the perfect day to get down to the beach!
This is one of the public beach entrances in Gulf Shores. They have beautiful beaches!

Another nice Campground in Gulf Shores
While driving around we decided to check out a couple more campgrounds in this area since we love it here so much.
We went through Fort Morgan RV Park but we didn't care much for it. It didn't seem very clean.
The one we did like was Bay Breeze RV on the Bay. It's small and clean.
This is the beach at Bay Breeze RV.
The above photo is of the deck that overlooks the bay.
The picture below is of the boat launch. So nice..

Sunday, January 23rd was the playoff game between the Bears and the Packers. Rick, Dick and Donna are HUGE Bear's fans, so, of course, we had a party!
Pre-game: Great weather, in Gulf Shores, anyway, not in Chicago! They had a high of 26 degrees.
The game begins and of course we had plenty of snacks and drinks!
Although we had to say goodbye, for now, to our friends Ruth and Wendall, another of our Illinois friends came to Gulf Shores this month. Troy (and his dog, Lucky) arrived in January! We went to lunch at Tacky Jack's 2 after taking a drive out to Fort Morgan. We still didn't take 'the tour' there but hope to do so soon.
....Troy, striking a pose!
...and the view today.
These old barracks are along the road just before you get to the ferry and Fort Morgan 'proper'.
The food wasn't great but the view of Mobile Bay was!

Flora Bama
We have been going to Flora Bama to buy alcohol since we arrived in Gulf Shores in November. The nice guy at Tobacco Road told us that the tax on hard liquor here, is 52%! Yikes!
Flora Bama is right on the state lines of Florida and Alabama. That's only 29 miles from Gulf Shores, in Perdido Beach, FL.
I look forward to spending some time across the street at the lounge and Oyster Bar!
Regardless, it's a beautiful drive along Highway 180 from Gulf Shores, AL to the Florida border!

Gulf Shores and area Restaurants
Gulf Shores has so much to do and so many great little 'eating places'. We love it! Not to mention no matter which direction you travel, there are miles and miles of gorgeous white sand beaches!
A few restaurants that we've tried and enjoyed, in the Gulf Shores area, are:
The Dog House Grille has become another favorite. We had breakfast there one day. It was very good for a good price and you sure got plenty to eat, too! The day that we went for lunch I had a 'build your own' all beef dog with sauerkraut, mustard, onion, jalapenos and relish...yum! Rick had the Philly Dog. He really liked it! I don't have a picture yet, but here's the link with a coupon and menu. The Dog House Grille
Lambert's Cafe in Foley, AL
Always excellent food and lots of it!
The Shrimp Basket
Our 1st Dinner in Gulf Shores! Delicious! We have since eaten dinner here, again. We came back for their Monday and Thursday, 'all you can eat' fried fish. Very good, but not as good as Doc's Seafood Shack's fish!
DeSoto's in Gulf Shores
Great lunches and great prices!
Doc's Seafood in Orange Beach
We had an excellent lunch of fried flounder! Large quantities and good prices.
Kitty's Kafe in Gulf Shores
We have had lunch and dinner here. Yet, I still don't have a photo for you....next time! Nice atmosphere, great wait staff and good food!
I did manage to pick up a t-shirt from Kitty's. Their motto is "Where Pigs Do Fly".
We also like pizza from the Mellow Mushroom. This is a chain and the 1st time we ate there was in Ocean Springs, MS. There is one in Foley, too. We were happy to see that familiar sign! These pictures are from the Ocean Springs Mellow Mushroom.

A new year in Alabama, January 2011
Well, it's almost 2011!
On New Year's Eve day we went to lunch with Ruth and Wendall. We ate at Doc's Seafood Shack in Orange Beach. We had excellent fish! From there Wendall shared with us the location where he buys his fresh seafood while staying in the Gulf Shores area. Aguilla Seafood Market is on the Bon Secour River.
I took this picture of a shrimp boat docked next to the shop.
After we got back to our campground, and yes, we are still at Doc's RV Park, we went next door to Dick and Donna's for an evening of snacking, playing dice and laughing. Of course, we had a few cocktails, too. I made my Key West Rum Punch and shared with Denise, from the office, Ruth and Donna.
On New Year's Day, I fixed shrimp cocktail, fried coconut shrimp, scalloped oysters and scallops wrapped in bacon. It was a seafood feast!
Rick and I decided to head towards Fort Morgan on Sunday. We saw these oil rigs in the bay.
On Tuesday, Dick and Donna were ready to go for a ride. It was a beautiful day, especially for January the 4th! We took them over to Perdido Key, FL and the Gulf Islands National Seashore....absolutely gorgeous!
..one lone fisherman
We were still taking pictures when the workers that had been cleaning the beach headed in for the day.
Although you can't tell by this picture, the line of workers was as long as the eye could see along this beautiful beach.
On the way home, we went in search of a BBQ place and found Fat Backs BBQ. It's on Highway 10 and a wonderful smoky, delicious BBQ! Great choice!

Christmas and a new year in Gulf Shores, Alabama
Christmas day we spent with more friends from Illinois that are staying at the beautiful Gulf State Park, only a couple of miles from Doc's RV Park.
Bill and Fay
Christmas dinner, without the ham and goodies..haha
Christmas at Doc's
and last but not least, Merry Christmas from Faith.

Alabama for the winter of 2010/2011
We had a beautiful stay that was quite a surprise at Mobile County River Delta Marina and Welcome Center in Creola, AL. It is a beautiful park and only $249 a month as of November, 2010. The only drawback is that the interstate is right alongside of it, hence it's a bit noisy.
From Creola, AL we traveled to Hilltop Campground in Robertsdale, AL. We had a time finding this one and we were very disappointed when we arrived. The next day we drove into Gulf Shores to look at some other campgrounds and we found Doc's RV Park and felt at 'home'. We moved the next day, November 20th and we have been here ever since!
We celebrated Dick's birthday in December in Gulf Shores, AL.
After enjoying the beach view, we had dinner at The Hangout.
Even though our meals weren't that great, the view was beautiful!

2010
We spent the summer in Illinois with the family.
Grandkids are wonderful!
We stayed at Spindler in the fall of 2010 and look forward to returning this spring!
We left with our friends Dick and Donna in November. We stopped to visit our daughter in Champaign, again, this year. Our new favorite campground in the Champaign area is D & W Lake. It's very clean, small and friendly.
Our travels begin again, after the night in Champaign, we traveled to southern Illinois and stayed at Marion Campground....very nice.
Note: I don't recommend taking 45S out of Vienna, IL. It is a rough, narrow road and you will have to cross the scariest bridge ever! Well, almost, anyway! It is so narrow that we thought we would lose the side mirrors off of the RV.
The 3rd night we spent in Jackson, TN at the Jackson RV Park...terrible! Our Tennessee friends tell us that there aren't any nice campgrounds near Jackson, sadly.
Our 4th night out, we stayed at Corinth RV Park in Corinth, MS. It was very pretty!
November 7th, we checked into Town Creek Campground in Columbus, MS. This is a Corps of Engineers park. It's beautiful and peaceful! The sites are large and wonderful with large cement pads and large adjacent squares with pea gravel, picnic tables, grills and fire rings. It sits right on the Tom Bigbee Waterway.
This turned out to be our last fire for the winter, sadly. We love our fires and cooking on them is the best!
The fishing is supposed to be good even though we didn't catch anything!
Dick and Donna getting their poles ready.
Even though we didn't catch any fish, Dick had some in the freezer, so, we did have a fish fry! Yum!
...ready to fry!
If you are ever in the area, there is a great little restaurant in West Point, MS., just down the road from our campground. It is Tin Lizzie Cafe and we had great BBQ there!
We stayed at Town Creek until the 15th and then traveled to Foscue Creek Park Campground another very nice Corps of Engineers park in Demopolis, AL.! It was a rainy day but still pretty and we were right on the water. We only stayed one night because we were heading south, again!
