We arrived in Jacksonville, FL on Halloween evening. Our 1st stay was in Pecan RV Resort. (I was informed that it is pronounced Pee-Can)  It is a large RV park and we prefer smaller campgrounds. It is situated right by the airport so the planes were a bit noisy. We did enjoy a large flea market within walking distance that weekend. From Pecan RV Resort we moved south west of Jacksonville to Whitey's Fish Camp. This campground is right on the St. John's River and is small but enjoyable. They have an excellent restaurant on site.

After leaving Jacksonville we headed to Lake Bryant in the Ocala National Forest.

This was our view from the RV.
We met some really nice people here and met up with our friends from Illinois, as well. Tracey and Dave were a fun couple with a dog and an African Grey who talked, whistled and imitated almost every cell phone ring tone you could imagine! We also made friends with a man from Canada named Doug. He took us out on his boat a couple of times and we enjoyed ourselves immensely!

We traveled to Silver Springs for our boat excursions. These trips were beautiful, we saw interesting wildlife and we learned that monkeys are abundant!!!

Do you see him next to the tree?

...and monkeys above our heads.

...and along the bank, flowers blooming in December!

Look closely. Yes, that is an alligator sunning himself!

Everyone came to see the monkeys!

...birds and turtles enjoying the warmth and the sunshine, just as we were!

..and such clear water!

Thank you, Captain Doug!

Florida for the winter 2009

From Grayton beach we headed to the Jacksonville, FL area to visit with an old friend. However, not before making a pit stop in Freeport, FL on Halloween day for an RV repair. Believe me it was like a scary movie at first, as we traveled from town to someone's home for the repair. As we went from hard roads to gravel roads through the woods to this lone house for the repairs, I felt the 'spirit' of Halloween by being scared out of my wits! Yet, 'all's well that ends well'! Our RV was repaired, by a friendly and kind man, better than the repairs that we had received, previously, at authorized repair shops!

On to Florida, the end of October 2009

We traveled along highway 98 from Ocean Springs and into Florida. It is a beautiful drive. We stopped in Grayton Beach State Park for two nights. It is absolutely beautiful! You can see why they call this area the Emerald Isle.

More of the beach. We love it and had it mostly to ourselves!

New Friends and Good Times in Mississippi in October 2009

Our good friend, JimBob, and Rick at Camp Journey's End.

Inside the Mellow Mushroom in Ocean Springs, MS. Our 'new' pizza place. yum!

We were lucky enough to be in Ocean Springs at the same time the annual 'Cruisin The Coast' vintage car show came to town.

Goodbye Camp Journey's End. We hope to visit again soon!

Camp Journey's End

The pool at Camp Journey's End...

...and the ducks. Just be sure and stop for them if they're crossing the road.
If you are traveling on  I-10, a stop here is well worth it. You won't want to leave. You are just 7 miles from the beach here. There are many things to do in Ocean Springs...just be sure to check to see if they have openings.

Ocean Springs, MS

This is the best barbeque ever! They have 'the blues' playing all of the time and live music a few nights a week. Great place with a great atmosphere!
We love this campground in Ocean Springs, MS! We arrived after dark but the host was very friendly. This is a gated campground with spotless showers and laundry room, a beautiful pool and the best barbeque and blues place just across the way.

Southward Bound

Our first trip to Lambert's Cafe! This one is in Sikeston, MO.

The Beginning

After spending our first month of full-time RVing at Spindler Campground in East Peoria, we went to see our daughter at U of I to say good bye for the winter.

Come travel with us

We became full time RVers in August of 2009. We had looked forward to this day for many years. This blog is a way to share with other RVers our travels and experiences...and to help me remember, too.
So, let's head on down the road.

We bought our 1985 Holiday Rambler in 2000 and we try to keep it as 'original' as possible.
